Jai Alai ... The Fastest Sport in the World!
The summer jai alai season at the Casino at Dania Beach (301 E. Dania Beach Blvd., Dania Beach, 954-920-1511, CasinoDaniaBeach.com) wraps up on June 24.
This season is tighter than the past three, when Erik won the triple crown.
“At the moment, Erik is leading in the most wins and singles category, and Diego, who is also a triple crown winner of seasons past, is leading in the doubles,” says players manager Benny Bueno. As with other pari-mutuels — horseracing and dog racing — jai alai players go by a performance name. So no last names.
“(And) the back court doubles championship is very close with two or three guys in the race,” Bueno says.
There’s also lots of wagering excitement this season. In June 7’s evening performance, on a 50-cent pick-5 bet, someone won $16,372.15. Dania won’t release the winner’s name, citing privacy concerns.
The Jai 5 promotion is for games 5 to 9 in each jai alai performance. Minimum bet is 50 cents. Half of the pool is paid to all winners each performance. If one person guesses all five winners, he or she takes home the total pool plus the jackpot.
Dania’s performances start at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays to Saturdays, with 3 p.m. matinees on Fridays and Saturdays.
Excellent season. A big big thanks to Benny Bueno. It was an exciting year with a lot of good payouts and good action. The roster is filed with a nice mix of vets and young blood. Job well done all the way around.
When does the season end? I'm seeing entries coming up for June 27th and beyond
Hey Jack ... my understanding is the Summer Season runs through June 30. Looks like the article above incorrectly says June 24.
